Actions1. Spreads & regulates the Liver qi: for rib or flank pain, distention, & belching due to constrained Liver qi. The herb strongly promotes the movement of qi, but its ability to alleviate pain is weak.2. Harmonizes the Stomach & strengthens the Spleen: for Spleen & Stomach qi stagnation with epigastric pain, fullness & distention, a lack of appetite, belching & /or vomiting. 3. Dries dampness & transforms phlegm: for subacute & chronic cough with copious phlegm. Especially useful for unrelenting coughs with chest pain. Because its phlegm-transforming function is rather weak, its is not used in treating the early stages of externally contracted coughs. |
MeridiansLiver, Lung, Stomach, Spleen |
CautionsUse with caution in cases without stagnant qi, & in cases of yin deficiency with heat signs. |
