Actions

1. Clears heat, dries dampness, & binds up the Intestines: for chronc diarrhea or dysenteric disorders, especially those due to damp-heat. Particularly useful when there is blood in the stool. Also used for chronic vaginal discharge due to damp-heat.

2. Kills parasites: for roundworms. Used externally for pruritic tinea-like rashes.

Cautions

According to some traditional sources, this herb should not be used in cases of cold & deficiency of the Spleen & Stomach, or where there is significant Kidney yin deficiecy.
