English Translation: Two Marvel Powder
Formula Type: Clear Damp-Heat
Actions: Clears heat & dries dampness.
Indications: For a wide variety of complaints accompanied by scanty, yellow urine & a yellow, greasy tongue coating. Among these complaints are pain in the lower back or extremities (especially the sinews or bones); weakness or atrophy of the lower extremities; red, hot, swollen, & painful feet or knees; a thick yellow, foul-smelling vaginal discharge; & sores on the lower exremities due to dampness.
Contraindications: This formula should not be used without modification in cases with Lung heat or Liver & Kidney deficiency.

Actions1. Drains damp-heat, particularly from the lower-burner: for such problems as thick, yellow vaginal discharge, foul-smelling diarrhea, or dysenteric disorder. Also for damp-heat pouring downward or hot leg qi with such symptoms as red, swollen, & painful knees, legs, or feet. Also for damp-heat jaundice.
2. Drains Kidney fire: for ascending Kindey fire with signs of yin deficiency such as steaming bone disorder, night sweats, afternoon fevers & sweating, sometimes accompanied by nocturnal emissions & spermatorrhea.
3. Drains fire & relieves toxicity: for fire toxin generated sores & damp lesions of the skin. |

CautionsContraindicated in cases of Spleen deficiency with or without diarrhea. Toxicity: There has been one case reported of a patient who developed a rash after ingestion of huang bai. When the patient was later skin-tested, there was a very strong local reaction. |

Actions1. Strongly dries dampness & strengthens the Spleen: for dampness obstructing the middle burner & blocking the transportive & transformative functions of the Spleen. Symptoms include reduced appetite, diarrhea, epigastric distention & pressure, fatigue, nausea & vomting, & a thick, greasy tongue coating.
2. Expels wind-dampness: for painful obstruction due to wind-cold-dampness in the extremities.
3. Clears dampness in the lower burner: for damp-heat pouring downward (as in leg qi), vaginal discharge, & swollen, sore joints. Although this herb is warm, it is very effective in drying dampness; when combined with herbs that clear heat, it is used for damp-heat disorders.
4. Induces sweating & releases exterior disorders: for headache, body aches, absence of sweating & /or oozing yin sores due to wind-damp-cold pathogenic influence. |
